Church History

A brief history:

The Don Bosco Parish was canonically erected on 24 May 1995 by the Archbishop of Hyderabad Most Rev. Samineni Arulappa. From 1995 to 1998 all the parish activities were organized in the campus of the Provincial House.

By the end of 1998, the chapel at Provincial House could not hold the number of parishioners. The sisters of Charity of Sts. Bartholomea Capitanio and Vineenza Gerosa rendered us the use of their Chapel for Sunday Services. Sooner it reached a state that even the bigger chapel could not contain even half of the steadily growing number of the Catholic Community.

Hence the Salesians have constructed a Church with all the necessary facilities for the functioning of the parish. It  was made into a Shrine of Don Bosco on February 24, 2003. As a Don Bosco Shrine it envisages to become a pilgrim center especially for the youth. In May 2004 the Don Bosco Shrine was entrusted to BIRDY.
